Weight Distribution Hitch

A new kind of
quick attach WDH
that makes towing Safer

RV folks have embraced weight distributing hitches
for their travel trailers for decades. A necessity for bumper pull
trailers, I’m
working in the horse industry to get more folks using weight
distributing on bumper pull horse trailers. A good WDH will
distribute the trailer tongue weight to all the axles of the truck
and trailer. This helps manage trailer weight, braking and sway.
This new Andersen Anti-Sway Anti-Bounce weight distribution system can be
unhooked in 2 minutes. Yes that’s a big improvement over what’s on
the market today with trunion bars, spring arms with chains, and the
dangerous levers popping the chains on the trailer tongue brackets.

Now imagine no more
squeaking, popping and bouncing weight distributing. Andersen has created a whole
new system for weight distributing and trailer sway control.

Made all heavy duty,
with thick steel plates on the trailer tongue brackets, a thick ball
shank (2 1/4 in down to 2 in) that’s rated for 14,000 lb trailers
with 2 5/16 in. ball. Basically one size fits all with two choices
of shank drops. Instead of sliding sway bars, spring arm cams or
gripping spring arm brackets, Andersen forces the trailer coupler
forward pushing the rear weight towards the front to achieve weight
distribution. The ball shaft goes all the way through the hitch
head. Cone shaped socket in the hitch head has brake lining in it.
The ball moves with the trailer creating friction sway control in
the brake lining. Urethane springs on the
end of the chains take the bounce and
squeak out of the weight distributing hitch.

Sway control is from the friction of a brake liner
inside the ball socket in the ball shank.

Brake
lining sleeve in the ball socket cone in the hitch head, provides
the sway friction for the ball. The ball turns with the trailer
coupler.  No need to grease the ball

because it rotates with the trailer
while turning. Pressure on the ball into the socket with the brake
lining is applied by tongue weight, creating self-adjusting sway
control. So it’s a pulling action on the ball shank that moves the
trailer tongue weight forward instead of a lifting action on the
spring arms as with most WDH’s. The more weight that’s applied to the
ball, the more wedging the ball down into the brake lining for sway
control.

Quick detach of the WDH by loosening chains,
and using the trailer jack
to take pressure off the ball. Then unpin the chain spreader
(triangle plate) from bottom of
the ball
shaft sticking out the bottom of the hitch head.  Basically leaving
the WDH on the trailer. Attaching is even easier and fast.

Top of ball shaft is 2 in
1/4 in. taper to the bottom of ball shaft is 2 in. at bottom of shaft after
the taper. 2 5/16 ball is rated for 14,000 lb trailer, 2 in. ball
rated for a 10,000 lb trailer.

Most high rated 2 5/16
in. balls have a 1 1/4 in. shaft on the bottom of ball.
Andersen ball shaft is 3/4 inch larger.

Comes in a small box
Hitch head, shank and ball.  Locking nuts on adjustable
drawbar for dual purpose hitch

Chain spreader (triangle plate) attaches to bottom of ball shank (sway
control tension plate)

Chains attach to chain spreader (triangle plate)

Trailer tongue
brackets are 5/8 in. thick

Fits 5 and 6 in. trailer V-tongue frames also available in 3
and 4 inch
Chain bolt goes
through outside frame bracket

High-density urethane spring

The
urethane spring takes the bounce out of the Andersen WDH

Andersen comes with it’s
own deep impact socket…

to tighten the chains.

Tightening the chains increased weight distributing and sway
control

Andersen No-Sway WDH Field Test

Sport camera on F150 and
Q56 filming (below) forced sway with the Titan dump
trailer showing the Andersen WDH stopping sway and
controlling the trailer.

 In our field test,
we forced the trailer to sway by swerving the trucks. Created sway
would return to center immediately with excellent sway
control, used on F150 with leaf springs and Infinity G56 SUV with air bag auto leveling.
We used a
trailer that was top heavy to see if Andersen would control sway
from two directions. Two large rectangle hay bales on top of each other
on a single axle Titan dump trailer.
We chose a single axle trailer that can sway more and
bounce more.

To create sway you need to be rear heavy or top heavy. We chose top
heavy so if we did go up on one wheel, the top bale would just fall
off the side of the trailer and not cause the test dummy to crash.

Andersen WDH becomes an adjustable drawbar

Collar holds ball in place for drawbar when not using chains

2 1/4 inch ball shaft tapers a 1/4 inch…

….to 2 inch at the bottom of the ball shaft

2 inch ball, 10k, 2 5/16 inch ball 14k

Trailer brackets are 5/8 in thick

Solid shank
is how the good ones are made
No grease
needed on the ball, ball turns with the trailer
coupler inside the brake lining

Dual purpose hitch, comes with a collar to use
drawbar without chain spreader as an adjustable hitch too.
No spring arms, greaseless ball, no squeaks, no bounce
and a Lifetime Warranty, what else do you need?
